Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Bright, semi-funky and crisp apple.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite from acid and a touch of carbonation. Apple upfront is dry, tart and mildly funky. With only a touch of sweetness, this is very peel focused and quite similar to the unfermented apple when eaten raw.
After Taste: Lingers a little while, with a touch of fermentation and earthy elements in the aftertaste. You get a little film but the apple is even more similar to the raw peel taste-wise here.
On ice: Lowers acid and slightly less intense.
Additional Notes: Dirty Dog’s Single Varietal MacIntosh is a 5.9% ultra-low carbonated offering. Lots of peel, tart, dry and funky notes – the apple aligns very closely with the peel of the commonly found offering in Ontario and Quebec that is more known as a cooking apple. A bit of fermentation notes in an aftertaste that holds on for a while. Pretty clean for such a naturally and traditionally produced cider.
