Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Earthy, bone dry, tannic apples.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation. A tannin bomb (chalky mouthfeel) with a puckering sourness, astringency and acidity. Earthy, bone dry apple base that is semi-sour.
After Taste: Elements become softer, with the apple remaining dry, but becomes a bit brighter. Orange-like hints.
On ice: Reduces a lot of strong flavours and mouth sensations. Thinner bodied. Less tannic.
Additional Notes: As a part of their English cider apple series, West Avenue’s Yarlington Mill + Kingston Black brings out two of the heaviest hitters from England for a bold experience. This is a tannin bomb – its gritty, astringent and puckering. A lot of acidity upfront, its a bone dry cider with minimal residual sugar noticeable. It may make you pucker and wince at first, including from some of the sour elements. After stronger elements reduce, more of the crisp apple base is noticeable, and a bit brighter of a cider at this point as a result. A very traditional cider, it may be best suited for experienced cider drinkers and fans of the style, but a great introduction to these apples to newer fans also.
