Cider Crate Tasting Notes:

Smell: Medium aroma. Pungent and astringent apples that are slightly musty. Hint of wood and tequila.
Initial Taste: Light bite. Semi sour and tart apple with the lime appearing quick as well
After Taste: As the apple dissipates, tequila notes come though that are softer than many other barrel-aged offerings.  Mildly salty ending.  A squeeze of orange bitters flavour appears, leaving an earthy resin.
On ice: Cuts carbonation and some flavour.

Additional Notes:  Slabtown’s Ciderita is more of a lime-forward offering than a tequila one, but the elements work well together and is a lighter barrel-aged offering than most others we’ve had. That means the other elements are able to shine, including the semi-sour/tart apples that have a bit of tannins to them, as well as the orange bitters and salt.  It has a balance of a lot of different notes but still remains mostly clean to consume.  You get more of the tequila flavour nuances than the spirit harshness, so its smooth with many layers and depths. It’s not exactly like a margarita but its a wonderful spin and cider interpretation of the classic cocktail.
