Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Pulpy, candied and crisp apple with peel (Noticeably Macintosh)
Initial Taste: Medium bite. Semi-bright and peel-focused apple. A bit of astringency, crisp and tangy parts. A lot going on overall, however, it all focuses and showcases the single varietal Macintosh apple. Lots of dryness with a waxy and yeast taste.
After Taste: Apple dissipates leaving a semi-long lasting finish with much more earthy, peel and some fermentation notes to it. Astringency and tartness remain, amongst a fleshy, creamy apple to end.
On ice: Thinner and less dry.
Additional Notes: Domaine Heritage’s Grande Mac is a single varietal that showcases the dessert apple in different ways then others have. A traditional offering, although low in tannins, it has acidity and much less sweetness then the unfermented apple variety itself. Lots of dryness, it has a long lasting finish with some fermentation notes. Remains tart and bold the entire way through. As you would expect with the lively carbonation when opened and poured, its effervencent. Rustic, with ice making it less intense and traditional.
