Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Pulpy, funky, wild fermented apple. Citra hops. Tart red berries.
Initial Taste: Mild bite from carbonation. Juicy grapefruit and watermelon-like notes. Funky, dank apple that’s not very crisp. Citra hops that add a bit of resin flavour. Tart red berry that has raspberry-like notes.
After Taste: Becomes more citrus focused. Berries become softer. Fermentation and some straw in the lingering notes.
On ice: Reduced hopped elements. Softer fruits.
Additional Notes: Diamond Dogs by Canmores, Core Values Cider, is a unique blend of citra hopped cider and saskatoon berries. It actually presents as a juicy watermelon and grapefruit blend upfront, leading into the promised tart saskatoon berries, that emit generic red berries and raspberry-like flavours. Towards the finish, it becomes more citrusy, with the hops resin/bitterness winding down. The apples are there, but not the star – they are more funky, and dank, and not too crisp/juicy. Lower carbonation and overall mouthfeel leave this as a thinner offering overall, especially for a wild ferment.
