Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Heritage apples that smell cellared. Baked apple. Slightly creamy. Hint of funk.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. A sharp acidity. A rich blend of heritage apple notes. Cellaring/mustiness. Baked and caramelized apples. Tannic.
After Taste: Becomes drier. Apple tannins weaken, and the base becomes a bit creamier and softer. Some funk notes emerge and linger. A slight oxidation.
On ice: Thinner body. Cleaner notes, but less aged elements. Apples are less sharp and layered.
Additional Notes: While made with English heritage varieties, Black Creek’s Heritage Cider could pass for a dry Normandy-style cider, with its caramelized, rich, “baked apple” base. A sharper acidity and tannins add mouthfeel. Cellaring and a bit of funk in the finish add a very aged taste to it. Higher alcohol than is typically found in France, which results in a drier finish.
