Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma, Boozy and woody from the barrel aging. Thick, rich, caramelized apple.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from acidity and alcohol. Thick and rich creamy caramelized apples that are followed by a sharp intense barreling and boozy sensation. Some bittersharp apples, a touch of tannins and acidity though still has a little natural sweetness.
After Taste: Apple does dissipate leaving more of a spirit finish with some more earthy elements. Touch of fermentation at the very end.
On ice: Body cut dramatically, much less intense.
Additional Notes: The Entre/Temps by Coteau St-Paul is one bold offering. At 11.5% you start with both acidity and alcohol upfront, followed with a rich and creamy caramelized apple. A lot in this with tannic and acidic bittersharp apples that finish quite “hot” (alcohol elements), in a longer-lasting after taste. If you like your boozy barreling (this is Hungarian barreling), this has a ton of character and body, without attacking the senses. 5 year-old fermented Empire apples, however, it is relatively clean overall.
