Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Dry, funky apple. Cellared notes. Touch of white wine.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation and acidity. A quick dry apple thats funky, dank, cellared.
After Taste: Becomes lighter, and apples become softer. Delicate white grape and white wine elements emerge that finish on these.
On ice: Watered down flavour, body is cut. Less sour. Less white wine notes.
Additional Notes: Cidrerie Compton’s Apfelwein is a medley of characteristics, made with golden russets and macerated and aged on dolgo crab apples and Louise Sweson white grapes. Its a very dry and dank cider, decently sour, with a lot of cellaring and fermentation notes upfront. The apples are mainly upfront, with the grape and white wine notes coming through in the finish. Familiar style of what you’d find in Germany, but perhaps a touch more dank/sour and with influences of the Quebec–wild-style that has emerged.
