Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Candied orange and Valencia-like orange with slight acetic elements. Some bitterness.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. Strong, sharp, gripping bitter grapefruit. Orange and other citrus elements are earthy.
After Taste: As flavours dissipate, bitter and dry grapefruit and aperol becomes the only real taste in a long lingering, aftertaste. Mild blimp of apple as the bitterness weakens.
On ice: Slightly less flavour.
Additional Notes: This latest in the East Street seltzer Aprés series the “Rhubarb-Orange Apero” is the cider makers’ take on the Aperol spritz, in a cider seltzer format. Very little apple elements, its’ essentially the bitter elements that come from grapefruit, with some earthy orange and a touch rhubarb. This one has a lot of flavour within the bitter elements that linger a long time. Very unique with no sweetness at all. A very strong homage to the popular aperol spirit and cocktail. Its incredibly bitter as a warning to drinkers.
