Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Fleshy, earthy apple. Some brightness, some funk.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite from carbonation. Earthy, dry apples greet you. Some tannins but not overly gripping. Some granny smith/green apple-like characteristics.
After Taste: Tannins reduce. Some yellow apple-like characteristics here. Apple becomes brighter but retains its ‘earthy’ taste to it. Saline-like notes. Long lingering crisp apple notes.
On ice: Reduced body. Minimal flavour change.
Additional Notes: As part of their “English Cider Apple Series”, West Avenue’s Dabinett offers a unique perspective on this Somerset apple varietal. An apple that has been cross-bred with an unknown genetic makeup, this apple uniquely features green and yellow flecks, amongst the red peel – something that certainly shows in the flavour profile of this cider at different points. Otherwise, it’s an earthy, dry apple that’s a bit gritty for the apple base. Some tannins but they are softer than other cider apple single varietal ciders from West Avenue. A decently crisp cider overall.
