Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Funky, rustic, cellared. Bruised apple. Tannins.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite. Quick cellar and fermentation notes. Medley of apple notes: heritage, crab and dessert apple notes here. Acidic and tannic but not overwhelming. Brown sugar element.
After Taste: Bolder elements dwindle, and apples become smoother. Some cellaring remains that lingers. Buttery/chardonnay + oak notes come through at the finish.
On ice: Bolder/harsher elements reduced.. Not much change overall to other apple notes.
Additional Notes: Spirit Tree’s King’s Gold 2021 Vintage is a rustic and bold cider that doesn’t skimp on elements some other cider makers shy away from such as cellaring and oak. Definitely tasting at least the 8% its heavy boozy and fermentation notes greet you quickly. There’s a variety of apples used in this, including heritage and dessert, peel and flesh, and it shows with Kingston Black, and Empire amongst the varietal list on the bottle. Very dry and old world inspired.
