Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Sugary blackberry. A touch of tart/sour but very candied.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. Thick, syrupy mixed berry (blackberry primary but noticeable raspberry and strawberry) that’s extra sweet. Very juicy, almost no apple and somewhat clean.
After Taste: Becomes a sugary-coated finish that’s almost like you ate a candy. Long lasting syrupy blackberry.
On ice: Thinner, but helps to reduce sweetness.
Additional Notes: The Somersby Blackberry (now also produced in Canada in Waterloo) is as commercial an offering as you can get. No real apple flavour, its mainly candied berries that are extra sweet, juicy and intense in flavour. Lower alcohol, “on ice” helps to cut the sweetness – often offered when out at the bar for this type of offering.
