Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Pink grapefruit & citrus. Mild apple. Hint of barreling/wood.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite. Juicy, semi-sweet pink grapefruit – mild zest. Light dessert apple. Agave notes.
After Taste: Tequila barreling comes through – spirit and wood. Lingering grapefruit notes, some fruit bitterness emerges.
On ice: Tequila drastically stripped. Almost juice-only-like.
Additional Notes: Slabtown’s Paloma Cider is a limited, seasonal offering that comes every May for Cinco de Mayo. Inspired by one of Mexico’s finest tequila cocktails, it is less bitter than straight grapefruit juice, and a bit soda-like from the carbonation. It has a considerate grapefruit presence, including a bit of the fruit’s bitterness near the finish. Some apple, but not that much to comment on. The tequila appears more agave-flavour-focused near the start, turning to the spirit flavour and barreling near the finish – including some booziness/astringency. A fun drink with a good nod to the original mixed drink.
