Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Wet barrel wood. Some white wine notes. Minimal bitter sharp apple.
Initial Taste: No bite, but some upfront acidity. Strong oak + barreling show up quick. Minimal apples that are dry and bitter sharp. Some fermentation + astringency.
After Taste: As bolder elements weaken, more defined white wine notes come through. Butter and plump grapes to finish.
On ice: Apples and oak lessened. More wine-focused but also a thinner body.
Additional Notes: Slabtown’s barrel-aged Chardonnay is heavy on the barrel-aging experience upfront, ending more so on the chardonnay and wine elements to finish. With the body of a cider, it features minimal apples however, seeming to be all bitter sharp in varietal notes present. Some fermentation and wine astringency, along with the bold oak/wet barreling notes make this a mature offering (similar to their others in their barrel-aged series). It ends on more grape and chardonnay buttery notes as promised however, but overall pretty muted.
