Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Lychee and citrus hop notes. Light off-dry apple.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation. Quick lychee and starfruit notes. Off-dry, crisp red apple notes.
After Taste: Lychee notes from hops continue, adding a bit of lemon and orange notes. Cider base is more obvious here. Clean finish for the apple notes, while the hop notes linger awhile.
On ice: Mild reduction in carbonation and flavour boldness.
Additional Notes: Red Island Cider’s The Devonport is a hop-heavy cider but not in the way you may expect from an IPA. Bursting with lychee, starfruit and some citrus notes, the hops are bold but bright and fun – and not bitter, rather fruity and tropical-oriented. The apple base is off-dry, and is secondary to some of the hop notes at times throughout the flavour profile. Read the very nice tribute of why they named this cider The Devonport on their bottle.
