Cider Crate Tasting Notes:

Smell: Medium aroma. Dank, pungent, funky apples. Some sourness.
Initial Taste: Medium bite. Quickly sour and funky. Dank, cellaring notes. A dry medley of apple characteristics. Earthy, gritty and tannic.
After Taste: Oak notes become more prominent. Apples are brighter than initially. A mild vanilla note at the finish.
On ice: Thinner body. Reduced boldness of stronger elements like sourness and funk.

Additional Notes:  Ironwood’s Cask Oak Cider is a bold offering that features a lot of process-related notes, including sourness, cellaring and barreling oak notes. It starts off much stronger than it finishes, with quick sour and funky notes. It becomes slightly brighter in the finish, with the oak barreling becoming more obvious, with a light vanilla underbelly in the finish.  Dank and dry, it could be seen as a niche cider, but it captures a lot of unique elements. But if too heavy or bold for you, try it on ice, as it smoothes out a lot of stronger elements. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
