Cider Crate Tasting Notes:

Smell: Strong aroma. Smokiness. Faint watermelon.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation. A smoky, ferment-forward semi-sour, bold, natural watermelon that’s on the drier side. Watermelon rind-heavy with some bright, fermented apples to follow.
After Taste: Becomes drier. Plump apple flesh notes emerge. Lingering smokey and earthy notes. Honey-like essences.
On ice: Softer fruit elements with much less watermelon rind. Becomes more sour.

Additional Notes: Cidrerie Au Pied de Cochon’s Watermelon / Melon D’Eau is a unique offering that does feature a lot of watermelon notes, but maybe not in the way you’re use to. Rind heavy, it’s not juicy-tasting, and it seems its been fermented almost dry. You get some apples near the finish. In the aroma and taste, there is a smokiness we can’t put our finger on. More sour on ice weirdly enough. Apparently made with yellow watermelon, which is supposed to be sweeter than red, but that is not the case in this cider – its very dry.
