Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Sour and tart grape. Farmhouse funk and dry apple.
Initial Taste: No bite but some acidity. Plump red grape. Dry apple base that’s light. Slightly tart and a hint of bitterness. Aged apple notes.
After Taste: Becomes mostly-red wine focused. Flat bodied here – very wine-like.
On ice: Even more wine-like. Less flavourful overall.
Additional Notes: 1818 Farm & Cidery’s Hailing a Cab used aged cabernet pomace from Kin Vineyard to infuse into their dry apple base. It starts off with a plump red grape note, and some dry apple base thats lighter and a bit aged. It then becomes more red-wine dominate in the finish – flavour and mouthfeel wise. This isn’t overly complex, and lighter over all than similar wine-cider blends – it actually drinks like a piquette to us because of the body and intensity of the flavour and lower apple base notes coming through.
