Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Bright, clean, crisp apples with some tannins and peel.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. Bright, very crisp apples, that includes peel. Gritty tannins and tanginess.
After Taste: Apple remains crisp, becomes slightly cleaner. Tannins make the mouthfeel complex and a bit gritty. Off-dry finish.
On ice: Significantly reduced carbonation. Less apple forward. Thinner body.
Additional Notes: Thornbury’s Clark’s Reserve Harvest (2020) says on the bottle this contains some of the best apples they’ve gotten ahold of – and we happen to agree, they are complex and offer a lot of depth. The apple base is very clean, crisp and sharp. The tannins are there from the start and build throughout the experience, making this have more depth as it goes on – they make the mouthfeel somewhat gritty. The carbonation is light but forceful. This is Thornbury’s most mature offering in our opinion and it is very limited – only 500 bottles produced.
