Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Very strong aroma. Heavy funk and cellaring. Acidity and astringency. Mature apples, including crab apple notes.
Initial Taste: Heavy bite from carbonation and acidity. Quickly astringency and harsh note forward. Bittersharp apples that taste aged.
After Taste: Once acidity weakens, some dank pear comes through. Cellar notes linger.
On ice: Carbonation reduced. Slightly smoother overall.
Additional Notes: Steel Town’s PORRO! is a very old-world inspired sidra made with both apple and pear. A very fermentation, barreling-focused cider, it’s about the processes and not as much the fruits which act mostly as a canvas to showcase these harsher, funkier flavours. Heavy on carbonation, it will probably foam over on you as it did us. The apples taste aged and mature, while the pear comes through rather dank and farmhouse near the finish. A funky, sour and intense offering, it’s a niche crowd cider.
