Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Fleshy pear with some tannins. Cellaring notes. Thick, syrupy.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite. Crisp, juicy pear that is thick and concentrated. Honey and grass notes. Sweet fruit.
After Taste: Pear becomes slightly more tart. A bit of alcohol notes come through. Sweet finish. Lingers a while with a bit of film.
On ice: Becomes slightly thinner. Reduced alcohol taste. Seems sweeter overall.
Additional Notes: The Poiré Demi-Sec by Pierre Huet has some familiar characteristics with Normandy apple cidres but surprised us in how thick and sweet it really was. With a strong, crisp, juicy pear to start, it’s sweet throughout, with the pear notes only becoming a bit tart near the finish. Some alcohol notes make it seem much stronger than the 2% it is. A thick, syrupy, concentrated mouthfeel has memories of fortified ciders.
