Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Cellar notes with earthy and metallic hints. Crab apple-like notes forward.
Initial Taste: Sharp bite from carbonation and acidity. Sour crabapple notes that dominate. Strong musty, cellared notes. Apricot hints.
After Taste: Acidity dwindles. Becomes slightly smoother and slightly sweeter. Very dry finish. Gritty and heavy mouth feel. Tart rhubarb-like hints.
On ice: Ice waters down the flavour and mouth feel. Crisper and smoother.
Additional Notes: Frequin Rouge is indeed a very old world style cider as the can promises, with strong mustiness and cellar tastes, amongst the sour apple base. This cider is very dry, not only in sugar content/sweetness but in the way it leaves your mouth, feeling very thick, gritty and heavy from the heavy tannins. Sourness of a Spanish sidra + some. Has a unique rhubarb note to finish. Heavy fermentation process and tastes stronger than 5.8%.
