Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Musty and sweet apple aroma with slight orange. Mild candied ginger.
Initial Taste: Light bite from acidity and carbonation. Mixed, pulpy apple flavours. Bitter orange. Musty.
After Taste: Apples remain but do dissipated. Ginger becomes stronger and lingers. Semi-long lingering finish.
On ice: Cuts carbonation and overall flavour.
Additional Notes: If you are expecting a sweet, cookie-like experience like we did from this cider, you will be surprised to find it is actually more on the bitter and earthy side. With pulpy apples, it has some sulphur notes, among the mustiness. The ginger isn’t terribly noticeable at first, but it does grow and lingers well into the aftertaste; and despite it smelling candied, it is actually an earthy, ginger root flavour. The oranges add a bitter dynamic to the cider, reminding us more of Seville oranges than a sunny Florida variety, though not overpowering and it does not drive the cider.
