Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Effervescent, cellared pulpy apples. Some bittersweet notes and a hint of funk.
Initial Taste: Medium bite.Sharp crisp apples. Bright with a slight hint of funk. Tannic and cellared but uplifting.
After Taste: Apple dissipates and turns into a long lingering, rich and full-bodied caramelized aftertaste. A bit of earthiness comes though along with more dry tannic elements.
On ice: Reduced body and funk, much cleaner and thinner.
Additional Notes: The Cuvée (2023) by Choinière is something of a lucky find at Le Projet – Spécialité Microbrasseries in Quebec City. With a bittersweet, extra crisp offering with plenty of tannins, a bit of funk and a lot of drinkability, this Cuvée comes in hot at 8.4%. Long-lasting aftertaste, it finishes creamy with a bit of earthiness. Balanced cellaring and apple flavour. A lot going on, and a lot to like – very Brittany, France inspired.
