Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Effervescent. Tannic and earthy heritage apple.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation. After carbonation and the sharpness of the acidity clears, a strong tannic and astringent dry apple emerges – very gripping in the mouth. Farmhouse funk. Lemon notes.
After Taste: Apple characteristics become softer but remain dry. Mouth becomes even drier. Banana like notes at the finish. Dank herbiness to it.
On ice: Slightly reduced flavour and reduces tannic mouthfeel.
Additional Notes: As a part of their English Cider Apple Series, West Avenue’s Chisel Jersey is a unique education on this 19th century Somerset apple. A very effervescent cider, you may also get some carbonation in your senses like we did. After a sharp carbonation and acidity when consumed though, then comes the gripping and astringent tannins that only build as the journey goes on – very physically drying for the mouth. The apple notes are extra dry and peel-focused, and are a bit funky and boozy too. Some lemon and banana like notes add a fruitiness to it. We also get a bit of a dank herb at the finish.
