Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Boozy. Bold red apple skins.
Initial Taste: Light bite. Semi-bitter Ida Red apples, with lots of skin notes. Waxy and slightly woody. Semi-light bodied for an ice cider.
After Taste: Apple elements reduce somewhat quickly with a slightly long lingering natural wood-like flavour. Minimal harsh elements.
On ice: Dramatically reduced in body and peel flavour. Almost loses its ice cider elements.
Additional Notes: 401 Cider’s Ida Red Ice Cider is a single varietal offering – unqiue because ice ciders typically are not made from 1 singular apple variety. Being an iced cider (with less water because of the freezing of the apples), the higher ABV is present at 12.5 but it’s not as astringent, sweet or intense as other ice ciders are. With a waxy apple peel flavour, and woody undertone, it is a strong Ida Red flavour throughout – possibly why it is less sweet tasting than the average ice cider.
