Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Dry, bright, pulpy apples. Oak/wood notes. Some funk.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation, followed by a quick, strong hit of booziness + astringency. Sharp apples that are decently crisp.
After Taste: Some apple bitterness comes through, as apple notes become even more dry. Lingering booziness + fermentation notes that stay awhile.
On ice: Reduces booziness a lot. Thinner bodied. Less punch and intensity overall.
Additional Notes: Muskoka Lakes’ Orv (2021) is an imperial cider at a whopping 13%. Its very boozy – the booziness and astringency hits you early and often. Almost a kick to the senses initially. Its close to a wine at this ABV level (technically so under Canadian laws), but unlike your standard apple wines, it has a crisp apple base still. Made with 4 different yeast strains to add complexity, you do get a depth of flavours within. Dry overall, it becomes even more dry in the finish. Fermentation notes and booziness stays longer than the apples. Don’t drink this one on an empty stomach, and drink on ice if too strong for you.
