Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Hefty mulling spices – in particular clove. Orange zest. Bright apple.
Initial Taste: Medium bite. Quick mulling spices, such as clove and anise star. Orange zest. Bright, sharp apples that are off-dry but still semi-soft.
After Taste: Spices become smoother, more cinnamon and allspice focused. Apple remains bright but slowly gives way to only spices lingering.
On ice: Minimal change. The slightest bit watered down.
Additional Notes: Bonnieheath’s Folkin’ Hard Harvest Spice is a delightful spiced cider that has orange peel added, to make it a true mulled experience. It starts off with elevated spices, like clove and anise star, moving to more warming spices like cinnamon into the finish. The apples are bright, sharp and off-dry. Orange peel tastes zesty and not juicy at all. It warms the palate and the body. It’s a softer spice profile than many other mulled ciders on the market, which can be gritty and bitter. Has lavender added, but it doesn’t really specifically show – maybe just adding a mild herbiness to the experience.
