Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Pungent, pulpy apple. Acidity. Dank wine notes.
Initial Taste: Minimal bite from carbonation. Orange-wine/skin contact wine notes quickly noticeable. Sour heritage apple. Funk, fermentation, and astringency.
After Taste: Sourness slowly dwindles, and bitterness replaces this briefly. A nuttiness emerges, like peanut. A dry white wine underbelly.
On ice: Astringency weakens. Body a bit lighter. Little flavour change.
Additional Notes: Cidrerie Au Pied Cochon’s Chemin des Pères has a naughty label, but it has a delightful flavour scheme within. With a blend of wine-infused into this, it definitely starts off with an orange wine/skin contact wine flavour and consistency. You get some sour heritage apple notes after that initial strong wine-forwardness, with a decent amount of funk, fermentation and astringency – it is 8.4% afterall. The sour notes and other bolder notes slowly dwindle, but as they do, you get some unique nutty-like notes and a more dry white wine body undertones. A very sophisticated wine-infused cider that has a lot of unique elements.
