Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Tart wine-like rich cherry with hints of fermentation.
Initial Taste: Light bite – decently foamy also. Quick hit of dessert apples that are overtaken by thick, smooth and semi-tart montmorency cherry. Rich cherry flesh, skin and juice.
After Taste: Becomes drier, slightly gritty and lasts a long time with a thick, cherry finish. Some red-wine-like elements.
On ice: Much thinner on ice.
Additional Notes: Niagara College Teaching Winery offers a 2022 Montmorency Cherry offering – a cherry found and is very popular in the Niagara growing region. This has a rich, deep alcoholic underbelly and body, as found in some liqueurs. Ice pulls a lot of the depth out of it, so we don’t recommend this for the full experience. A deep red, rich cherry throughout, semi-tart, gripping and yet approachable. A lot of carbonation when poured, so if it’s sitting sideways let it sit for a while when opening. Some of the most foam/head we have seen on a cider.
