Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Heavy aroma. Strong barreling and astringency. Fermentation and sourness. Dank apples
Initial Taste: Medium bite, with quick bitterness. Aged, dank apples. Pungency and sourness. Barrelling and astringent wine notes.
After Taste: Becomes even more dry, including physically on the palate. Alcohol astringency remains with white wine-like notes becoming more clear. Lingering aged apple notes and fermentation notes. Ends like a white wine.
On ice: Much less sharp characteristics, and smoother. Slightly creamier apples. Shorter flavour profile.
Additional Notes: Steel Town’s Bruto is a special release for them – they say they have been aging this one since they began their operations 5 years ago in their favourite chardonnay barrels. This is a heavy, intense cider overall and probably not for beginner cider drinkers. It features sharp and strong harsher characteristics, including strong fermentation and astringency notes, amongst a dank and pungent apple base. Very dry, it is about the deep aging process here. The apples are dank and incredibly dry. As it slowly lightens up in the aftertaste, you get a bit of the chardonnay characteristics from barreling, but the biggest draw seems to be from the barreling process itself, not for any grape-like aspects. Sour – and even pungent – as Steel Town is known for, it may make your face pucker. A very bold and extra bone dry cider overall.
