Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Barrel aging with some acetic notes. Bright.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. Followed first by some bright but semi-sweet apples that’s overtaken quickly by a medium intensity bourbon flavour. Barreling/woody/earthy elements.
After Taste: Apples do not really return, leaving a smooth bourbon finish that becomes accompanied by the maple aspects right at the finish.
On ice: A lot thinner and smoother to consume.
Additional Notes: Slabtown’s Bourbon Maple is a medium intensity barrel-aged offering. Smoother than most bourbon-infused offerings we’ve tried, the maple comes out in the end and gives it a kiss of sweetness. Not many juicy apples other than the first upfront hit after carbonation reduces and they are more pomace tasting. Smells a lot different than it tastes. If the bourbon is too much, add some ice – as it builds in the throat as the glass finishes. Also a hint of astringency but not too harsh. A bit rustic overall.
