Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Semi-tart, crisp and peel like. Slightly earthy.
Initial Taste: Extremely fizzy that takes over the initial taste, once dissipated a little, golden russet apples (dry, semi-tart, not overly apple forward) become present.
After Taste: As carbonation reduces, earthy and more natural elements become present. Some woody notes, but it does not linger a long time. Has a slight film and finished a bit like tonic water.
On ice: Carbonation dramatically reduced, tartness cut and becomes much lighter. One of the biggest differences on vs no ice we have come across.
Additional Notes: This almost fuzzy cider, the Golden Russet by Settlers Cider Co is easier to drink than other golden russets single-varietal ciders as the apples are not as harsh – if you can get past the high carbonation levels. Not long lingering and not overly traditional apple-flavoured forward, this reminds us of a Spanish sidra, just more carbonated and less harsh elements. Thinner, earthy and very natural tasting. Very unique among its Ontario Craft Cider contemporaries.
