Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Sweet, pulpy apple, juicy. Rich caramel with some baked apple.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation. Upfront strong, semi-sweet and juicy apple. Lots of flesh notes with a thick body. Has a deep boozy backbone without the fermentation elements.
After Taste: As the body reduces in the long-lingering aftertaste, apple elements transition from juicy and pulpy to more sour/granny smith like with some peel notes. Some acidic notes.
On ice: Slightly thinner body.
Additional Notes: One of the first ever produced Imperial Ciders (High ABV) the Schilling Cider House Excelsior Hard Apple packs a punch at 8.4%. This rich caramel smelling cider starts off with a lite bite and strong semi-sweet and juicy apple that’s thick with lots of fleshy notes. It then turns into a more peel-like finish with some green apple elements which stays a long time in the mouth. Easily a unique style that we can see how it may have spawned many others to try it.
