Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma of sweet rum with some heritage apples. Similar to an iced cider in aroma essence.
Initial Taste: Slight bite from acidity. Quickly turns to semi-tart apple and strong golden/dark rum flavours.
After Taste: Becomes more rum-like in nature. Rum elements strengthen, close to like you just had a shot. Ends tangy and lingers for a while. Some syrup/thick characteristics.
On ice: Carbonation is reduced. Overall rum flavour and tanginess is reduced.
Additional Notes: A unique blend, the Planters Ridge Rummed Cider is probably not barrel-aged, but with golden and dark rums directly added – which are very obvious in the taste from start to finish. A bit more harsh to drink, it is tangy, slightly pungent and powerful. Apples are obviously a base, but do not overly drive the drink from start to finish. It may not be a beginner cider due to its thicker consistency and heavy rum flavours/astringency. For many reasons, it reminds us of Calvados in style and taste. Be careful, its 9.5%!
