Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Funky and pulpy apple with some acetic and saline aspects.
Initial Taste: Light bite from acidity and carbonation. Apple starts upfront with pulpy and acidic elements, that turns more funky, as is found in many traditional scrumpies. Some cleaner apple elements are present also. Fermentation + alcoholic notes add depth.
After Taste: Apple is removed leaving mostly funk and fermentation elements in the finish. Long lingering but not overly strong once the apple departs. Saline notes linger
On ice: Some elements are reduced, such as funk and sour.
Additional Notes: The Ironwood Cider Heritage Farmhouse Scrumpy is a slightly lighter and more approachable offering than other scrumpies we’ve had of a similar vein but still with good dry depth. Apples are present (also more so than many other scrumpies we’ve had), but aren’t the focus in the finish. Funk and sour, but not biting, a smoother but still funky farmhouse scrumpy.
