Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium aroma. Cellared, dank and funky caramelized pear.
Initial Taste: Light bite from carbonation, followed by a strong punch of sour pear notes that are funky and earthy. Rustic with tannins and bitterness.
After Taste: Takes a bit to develop but the pear becomes juicier in nature and cleaner. Long-lingering with a lot of punch and some sour notes. Very dry finish.
On ice: Carbonation and sour elements reduced dramatically.
Additional Notes: The FieldBird Cider’s 2019 Black Barred is a charmat method offering that is a very strong tasting with sour and funky pear – and a decent amount of carbonation pop to it. It has quite a long flavour profile as it not only takes a while to get to the aftertaste, but also lingers quite boldly. Pear is punchy yet still retains some clean elements to it. Much more pear flavour than other dry perries we’ve had. Slightly caramelized as well.
