Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Acidic, pulpy wild apple with some bitter rhubarb
Initial Taste: Medium bite from acidity. Sour and funky apples with some bitter-sharp elements. Rhubarb present but not overpowering
After Taste: As acidity reduces and the apple becomes a little smooth, raw earthy rhubarb becomes more present. Short overall aftertaste that cleans out pretty easily.
On ice: Reduced mouthfeel and smoother
Additional Notes: The Rhubarb by Farmgate Cider Co. is a sour and funky offering with a light rhubarb that becomes more present as the apple dissipates. More sour than what you’d have in a rhubarb pie and more dry, but a familiar flavour. Decently gritty on the palate. The apple base seems to have both bitter sharp and heritage characteristics. Not necessarily a cider for beginners but a worthy cider to build a tolerance and palate up for.
