Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Earthy, astringent and apple forward. Semi-sweet.
Initial Taste: Strong bite from carbonation. Quickly dry and acidic. Mild apple flavour. Some astringency.
After Taste: Carbonation builds then dissipates and the apple notes become more obvious. Quite earthy and woody. Very dry finish with lots of fermentation elements.
On ice: Carbonation is significantly cut. Slightly more apple forward and tart. Smoother.
Additional Notes: Kew’s North Cider Brut is a very carbonated, effervescent cider, which could be a very acceptable equivalent to a sparkling wine/champagne. Carbonation really drives the cider, masking a lot of the initial taste with the sensation, but it does become more apple forward as it dissipates near the end. Earthy, astringent, and slightly woody, it tastes slightly old-world style as intended. Sophisticated yet rustic and rudimentary – a unique contrast that works in this.
