Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium smell. Red grape and apple aromas coming equally
Initial Taste: Medium bite from acidity. Mature, semi-sour apple flavour comes through quickly after the acidity fades. Astringent and tangy. Some bitter notes.
After Taste: Red grape and red wine flavours come out, with mild apple flavours lingering. Becomes drier, with a red wine-like finish.
On ice: Carbonation is cut a lot. Cider is more sweet and less wine-like. Astringency and dryness is reduced.
Additional Notes: 401’s True North was brewed for the 150th Birthday of Canada – adding a Canadian theme to the bottle and to the colour of the cider. Brewed with red grapes, it is a strong break from a lot of straight ciders that have white wine characteristics (especially sparkling wines). With a deep, rich flavour and a strong astringency, it is similar to red wines and may be an easy transition for red wine drinkers. Ice drastically changes the flavour and composure, with it becoming smoother and more crisp.
