Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Medium smell, sweet-apples with must and woody notes.
Initial Taste: Medium bite from carbonation but very crisp and smooth to sip. Musty, earthy and woody flavours quickly noticeable. Some bitter notes.
After Taste: Sweet, pulpy apple flavour develops. Oak and barreling flavours more prevalent that linger for a while. Light, dry finish.
On ice: Slightly less carbonation on ice. Apple flavours remain the same, but there is a stark difference between on and off ice for on ice the musty and oak notes are strongly diminished. Becomes less dry on ice.
Additional Notes: 401 Cider Brewery’s Sparkling Oaked Cider is an interesting cider that features the apple flavours primarily; with strong wood, oak and barrel flavours secondary. It is a clean, dry and crisp beverage that is light, complex and sophisticated. The carbonation adds a ‘luxurious’ feel to the drink – but there is also a still version of this oaked cider available.
