Cider Crate Tasting Notes:
Smell: Strong aroma. Rustic, cellared, tannic, yet bright apples. Some sour elements.
Initial Taste: Strong bite from carbonation. Dry, gripping, tannic apples. Some funk and barnyard aspects. Apple grit and astringency.
After Taste: Apples become a bit creamy. Barreling comes through. Some lingering barnyard notes, but a mostly clean, crisp finish. Some minerality.
On ice: Less carbonation and body. Apple is forward.
Additional Notes: The Niles Corner Scrumpy by Cold Creek Vineyards is tannic, very carbonated offering. Starting with a rush of bubbles to hit the senses, the carbonation does delay the flavour notes for a brief bit. Compared to other scrumpies, it’s cleaner and more approachable, with more apple-forwardness than typical of the style. Apple is quite present along with a lot of flavours, including fermentation notes . Becomes a bit creamier as it goes on. Slightly farmhouse in its overall vibe.
