Saying it here and now: pomegranate needs to be in Saying it here and now: pomegranate needs to be in more ciders! ❤️ Enjoyed the newish Pomegranate Blueberry Cider by @kwcraftcider. I say newish because it’s new in cans and to the @lcbo for 2025, but it’s been a featured flavour combo in kegs at establishments for a bit now. If you like red berries and/or tart fruits, this may be for you. With a familiar cider base you’ll find in many of their other ciders, this one is dry and is mostly balanced between the two added adjuncts - but I do find it tilts a bit towards the pomegranate overall. It’s @1818farm_cidery sophomore year of cider ma It’s @1818farm_cidery sophomore year of cider making, and their newest releases for 2025 show how much their craft has evolved in the last matter of mere months. Case in point - their 2024 Golden Hour is a stunning offering that’s a masterclass in having balanced elements but yet also somehow bold, rich flavours that shine independently on their own. Made with Golden Russets, and aged in French brandy barrels, the barreling aspects really hit the palate quick and strong first. You get some astringency and booziness from the brandy, as well as a mild hit of woodiness that adds nuanced depth. If you like spirit barrelled ciders, this 100% will tickle your desires. Then into the aftertaste, the promised yellow apple Golden Russet base really starts to shine, as the astringency and fermentation notes start to dwindle. You get peel and flesh notes, that are clean and showcased to the full potential of the original apple variety. Fermented bone dry, there is still a natural brightness from the Golden Russets that delights. This one is easily our favourite so far from 1818 Farm & Cidery and an early contender for our best of list for 2025. Owner Wes told us he has a lot of big plans for the cidery under construction right now, so do watch their space for big things coming soon. When you can’t make it to the County, you can br When you can’t make it to the County, you can bring a bit of the County to you. We had planned on going to PEC this weekend, but a very large rain storm halted our plans. Our two corgis in the rain would make quite unnecessary messes, and we ain’t about that life. But we still did have this @clafeldcider collab with @pluckteas in our fridge - their Georgian Bay Berry cider. In their collab series of we believe of 6 ciders now, they infuse various Pluck Teas into their ciders, which includes this berry option. We found this one drank the most like an ice tea of the bunch. The stillness of these ciders really allows for a lot of the tea intricacies to come out, like tannins specifically from the teas themselves. It’s not often you see elderberries in a cider, It’s not often you see elderberries in a cider, but we are here for it in Franklin, Quebec’s @lacapsuletemporelle 2022 harvest ‘Sureau’. Tart, but not aggressively sour, you are greeted with these notes + some astringency from the berries. Some earthy grit, and acidity add some natural depth to the offering. You get some of the traditional apple base with some funk detectable, that peaks through the stronger berry notes at times. It becomes more of a wine-like, dry fermented elderberry into the finish, less juicy than how it starts. We assume this is very close to if you were to eat elderberries off a wild bush actually. This cider masterfully trends on both old world and new world Quebec cider making. A very elevated choice for fans of tart and/or berry ciders, without being too bold in any direction, other than the dryness. We’ve tried a lot of their portfolio and everything is a true delight. But this one really stands out. It’s a great opportunity to try (and retry) cider from Canada’s oldest cider-making province. With over 110+ cidermakers across La Belle Province, there is something for every taste! 🥂 One of the first makers we always think of when we think of Quebec cider is Chicoutimi’s @cidrejolirouge. Making extra crisp and well executed ciders, their original here has been loved for many years now and has wide distribution across the province. Depending on traditionally grown apples in Quebec, it’s an off-dry, authentic to history experience in a can. We also love their flavoured ciders like their Maple and Raspberry, and they even have a few alcohol-free choices available now too.

Supporting local tonight with the Stone Cold Cider Supporting local tonight with the Stone Cold Cider by Morrisburg’s @stonecropacres! If you’re in Eastern Ontario, this is worth a stop, for ciders, wines and some excellent pizzas. This cider is still, low tannin and acidity, but with a decent amount of red apple characteristics. Bone dry, it’s got a bit of natural grit and earthiness to it. As per the bottle, the apples come from the near by orchard where the McIntosh apple was discovered - yes that is near Ottawa! This is a fun spring release from @thornburycraft This is a fun spring release from @thornburycraft now at the LCBO - their Mango Lemonade Dragonfruit Cider! Best I can describe it, it’s a tropical vacay in a can. I was very impressed with the amount of mango and especially dragonfruit flavours found within - they dominate the profile. Following that, are the crisp apple notes, and lastly a bit of sweet lemonade to round everything out. This does run on the sweeter side and has more of a commercial, widespread appeal. It’s not something I would reach for every day, but because of its sweetness and refreshing nature, would be so great in the direct sunlight on a humid day. Love to see such creative flavours and offerings coming out this year. Easter egg hunts but make it with ciders 👏🐣 Easter egg hunts but make it with ciders 👏🐣 If you like SOUR ciders that will make you wince and salivate, the @revelcider Slow & Steady may be that girl for you. Bone dry, pungent and funky, it’s a bold one, that’s for sure - especially right out of the gates. What really makes this unique is the additive of goldenrod and sumac. Sumac/heavy upfront, it adds a zesty lemon and peppery note to it. As the stronger elements reduce, you then get the golden rod near the finish in the form of a savoury floral note. The foraged apples that comprise the base seemingly have both heritage and crab apple characteristics within. As Revel says, they love flavours, feelings, fruits and flowers and this cider has it all. As Chelsea said, bad luck comes in 3 so I’m guessing 3 people (including a Ratliff). In honour of this, I’ve crafted the “White Hot Mess Lotus” Thai-inspired cider cocktail! 🐵 2 oz of @tanqueraygin Rangpur Lime Gin 🙊 1 oz of St- Remy brandy 🙉 Your favourite apple cider (I chose @heemans Dry Empire as it is very crisp and helps amplify other flavours) 🙈 Thai basil + mint leaves + a squeeze of lime 🐒 4 oz of mango juice (but I used mango dragonfruit if you can find it) ❌ absolutely zero fruit juice from the poisonous pong-pong tree 1. Muddle your herbs in the bottom of a cocktail shaker 2. Add gin + brandy 3. Add ice + juice + a bit of freshly squeezed lime. Shake generously. 4. Strain into glass with some ice 5. Top to the rest of the glass with your favourite cider! 6. Garnish if you can’t live an uncomfortable life at this age

Our friends at @cidre_intrus have crafted a beautiful cider in their J’ai un project, denvenir feu. Which we believe translates to “I have a project - to go crazy” (DM us if that is wrong). A lively medley of Marquette, plums and late season apples, this is a bone dry, sour-leaning and semi-funky cider that really lets some of the cellaring shine from within. The adjunct fruits taste plump and fresh, with the apple base tasting a bit more aged and dank. The acidity is also an amplifier of flavour throughout. Really a sophisticated offering overall, it has a lot of bold elements that are still are in sync and harmonious with one another.

Little Twig. Big wings. 🦋 Ended up with a bott Little Twig. Big wings. 🦋 Ended up with a bottle of this beautiful cider from our talented friends at @woodfolkcider. This 2023 vintage Little Twig is an elevated cider that’s really easy to drink a lot of, quickly. This is a clean, bright and bone dry cider heavy on the tannins, with some driving acidity initially. Featuring a blend of heritage and culinary apple varieties (the bottle lists them all - impressive!), it’s more crisp apple base upfront, and fermentation + booziness notes in the finish. A bit of well controlled woodiness and funk adds depth too. This is a stellar cider that really features a lot of what makes Ontario cider so unique and delicious. With a ton of apple body, start to finish, it’s extra refreshing and satisfying. A nice fermentation note to remind you it is indeed alcoholic. We’d think this would be a hit with almost every cider fan out there. This is a classic Ontario cider for a reason from Niagara benchlands maker Vieni. And they still have it available at their store + a few on the LCBO website currently. Believe it or not, this was one of our absolute first publlished reviews in 2016 at number 22. We’ve since updated the review because our first ones were a bit rough and rudimentary #growingpains 😜 What are you sipping this frigid weekend? 😍

A naturally more sweet apple, this shows in the cider but is far from sugary or cloying. Made with estate Galas, this is a super crisp and easy to drink cider. It’s crisp, bright and with a clean, fault free body. It also features some unique notes like starfruit and other tropical-like notes. Some of the best Canadian ciders you could find in Chicago last week: 🍎 @banjocider. The strawberry rhubarb Wildflower made with maple syrup was an absolute hit with everyone 🍎 @twoblokescider all of theirs of course! 🍎 @woodfolkcider brought many of their ciders, Little Twig being a personal favourite of mine 🍎 @redislandcider brought some of their flavoured cans. Their Haskap Lady’s Slipper was a masterclass on local PEI flavours 🍎 @islandfolkcider brought a few, including their latest Chocolate Strawberry made for Valentines 🍎 @crossmountcidercompany brought maybe their entire portfolio to sample?! Amazing! 🍎 @yorkcountycider from Fredericton became a cult favourite with their 2L bottles of flavoured goodness, including their 9% imperial cherry 🍎 other bottles from @greyandgoldcider, @heemanscellar and @drinkannapolis also made their way through the tasting events Always incredible to see Canadian Cider from coast to coast to coast be loved and appreciated. Saying it here and now: pomegranate needs to be in Saying it here and now: pomegranate needs to be in more ciders! ❤️ Enjoyed the newish Pomegranate Blueberry Cider by @kwcraftcider. I say newish because it’s new in cans and to the @lcbo for 2025, but it’s been a featured flavour combo in kegs at establishments for a bit now. If you like red berries and/or tart fruits, this may be for you. With a familiar cider base you’ll find in many of their other ciders, this one is dry and is mostly balanced between the two added adjuncts - but I do find it tilts a bit towards the pomegranate overall. It’s @1818farm_cidery sophomore year of cider ma It’s @1818farm_cidery sophomore year of cider making, and their newest releases for 2025 show how much their craft has evolved in the last matter of mere months. Case in point - their 2024 Golden Hour is a stunning offering that’s a masterclass in having balanced elements but yet also somehow bold, rich flavours that shine independently on their own. Made with Golden Russets, and aged in French brandy barrels, the barreling aspects really hit the palate quick and strong first. You get some astringency and booziness from the brandy, as well as a mild hit of woodiness that adds nuanced depth. If you like spirit barrelled ciders, this 100% will tickle your desires. Then into the aftertaste, the promised yellow apple Golden Russet base really starts to shine, as the astringency and fermentation notes start to dwindle. You get peel and flesh notes, that are clean and showcased to the full potential of the original apple variety. Fermented bone dry, there is still a natural brightness from the Golden Russets that delights. This one is easily our favourite so far from 1818 Farm & Cidery and an early contender for our best of list for 2025. Owner Wes told us he has a lot of big plans for the cidery under construction right now, so do watch their space for big things coming soon. When you can’t make it to the County, you can br When you can’t make it to the County, you can bring a bit of the County to you. We had planned on going to PEC this weekend, but a very large rain storm halted our plans. Our two corgis in the rain would make quite unnecessary messes, and we ain’t about that life. But we still did have this @clafeldcider collab with @pluckteas in our fridge - their Georgian Bay Berry cider. In their collab series of we believe of 6 ciders now, they infuse various Pluck Teas into their ciders, which includes this berry option. We found this one drank the most like an ice tea of the bunch. The stillness of these ciders really allows for a lot of the tea intricacies to come out, like tannins specifically from the teas themselves. It’s not often you see elderberries in a cider, It’s not often you see elderberries in a cider, but we are here for it in Franklin, Quebec’s @lacapsuletemporelle 2022 harvest ‘Sureau’. Tart, but not aggressively sour, you are greeted with these notes + some astringency from the berries. Some earthy grit, and acidity add some natural depth to the offering. You get some of the traditional apple base with some funk detectable, that peaks through the stronger berry notes at times. It becomes more of a wine-like, dry fermented elderberry into the finish, less juicy than how it starts. We assume this is very close to if you were to eat elderberries off a wild bush actually. This cider masterfully trends on both old world and new world Quebec cider making. A very elevated choice for fans of tart and/or berry ciders, without being too bold in any direction, other than the dryness. We’ve tried a lot of their portfolio and everything is a true delight. But this one really stands out. It’s a great opportunity to try (and retry) cider from Canada’s oldest cider-making province. With over 110+ cidermakers across La Belle Province, there is something for every taste! 🥂 One of the first makers we always think of when we think of Quebec cider is Chicoutimi’s @cidrejolirouge. Making extra crisp and well executed ciders, their original here has been loved for many years now and has wide distribution across the province. Depending on traditionally grown apples in Quebec, it’s an off-dry, authentic to history experience in a can. We also love their flavoured ciders like their Maple and Raspberry, and they even have a few alcohol-free choices available now too.

If you’re in Eastern Ontario, this is worth a stop, for ciders, wines and some excellent pizzas. This cider is still, low tannin and acidity, but with a decent amount of red apple characteristics. Bone dry, it’s got a bit of natural grit and earthiness to it. As per the bottle, the apples come from the near by orchard where the McIntosh apple was discovered - yes that is near Ottawa! This is a fun spring release from @thornburycraft This is a fun spring release from @thornburycraft now at the LCBO - their Mango Lemonade Dragonfruit Cider! Best I can describe it, it’s a tropical vacay in a can. I was very impressed with the amount of mango and especially dragonfruit flavours found within - they dominate the profile. Following that, are the crisp apple notes, and lastly a bit of sweet lemonade to round everything out. This does run on the sweeter side and has more of a commercial, widespread appeal. It’s not something I would reach for every day, but because of its sweetness and refreshing nature, would be so great in the direct sunlight on a humid day. Love to see such creative flavours and offerings coming out this year. Easter egg hunts but make it with ciders 👏🐣 Easter egg hunts but make it with ciders 👏🐣 If you like SOUR ciders that will make you wince and salivate, the @revelcider Slow & Steady may be that girl for you. Bone dry, pungent and funky, it’s a bold one, that’s for sure - especially right out of the gates. What really makes this unique is the additive of goldenrod and sumac. Sumac/heavy upfront, it adds a zesty lemon and peppery note to it. As the stronger elements reduce, you then get the golden rod near the finish in the form of a savoury floral note. The foraged apples that comprise the base seemingly have both heritage and crab apple characteristics within. As Revel says, they love flavours, feelings, fruits and flowers and this cider has it all. As Chelsea said, bad luck comes in 3 so I’m guessing 3 people (including a Ratliff). In honour of this, I’ve crafted the “White Hot Mess Lotus” Thai-inspired cider cocktail! 🐵 2 oz of @tanqueraygin Rangpur Lime Gin 🙊 1 oz of St- Remy brandy 🙉 Your favourite apple cider (I chose @heemans Dry Empire as it is very crisp and helps amplify other flavours) 🙈 Thai basil + mint leaves + a squeeze of lime 🐒 4 oz of mango juice (but I used mango dragonfruit if you can find it) ❌ absolutely zero fruit juice from the poisonous pong-pong tree 1. Muddle your herbs in the bottom of a cocktail shaker 2. Add gin + brandy 3. Add ice + juice + a bit of freshly squeezed lime. Shake generously. 4. Strain into glass with some ice 5. Top to the rest of the glass with your favourite cider! 6. Garnish if you can’t live an uncomfortable life at this age

Our friends at @cidre_intrus have crafted a beautiful cider in their J’ai un project, denvenir feu. Which we believe translates to “I have a project - to go crazy” (DM us if that is wrong). A lively medley of Marquette, plums and late season apples, this is a bone dry, sour-leaning and semi-funky cider that really lets some of the cellaring shine from within. The adjunct fruits taste plump and fresh, with the apple base tasting a bit more aged and dank. The acidity is also an amplifier of flavour throughout. Really a sophisticated offering overall, it has a lot of bold elements that are still are in sync and harmonious with one another.

Little Twig. Big wings. 🦋 Ended up with a bott Little Twig. Big wings. 🦋 Ended up with a bottle of this beautiful cider from our talented friends at @woodfolkcider. This 2023 vintage Little Twig is an elevated cider that’s really easy to drink a lot of, quickly. This is a clean, bright and bone dry cider heavy on the tannins, with some driving acidity initially. Featuring a blend of heritage and culinary apple varieties (the bottle lists them all - impressive!), it’s more crisp apple base upfront, and fermentation + booziness notes in the finish. A bit of well controlled woodiness and funk adds depth too. This is a stellar cider that really features a lot of what makes Ontario cider so unique and delicious. With a ton of apple body, start to finish, it’s extra refreshing and satisfying. A nice fermentation note to remind you it is indeed alcoholic. We’d think this would be a hit with almost every cider fan out there. This is a classic Ontario cider for a reason from Niagara benchlands maker Vieni. And they still have it available at their store + a few on the LCBO website currently. Believe it or not, this was one of our absolute first publlished reviews in 2016 at number 22. A naturally more sweet apple, this shows in the cider but is far from sugary or cloying. Made with estate Galas, this is a super crisp and easy to drink cider. It’s crisp, bright and with a clean, fault free body. It also features some unique notes like starfruit and other tropical-like notes. Some of the best Canadian ciders you could find in Chicago last week: 🍎 @banjocider. The strawberry rhubarb Wildflower made with maple syrup was an absolute hit with everyone 🍎 @twoblokescider all of theirs of course! 🍎 @woodfolkcider brought many of their ciders, Little Twig being a personal favourite of mine 🍎 @redislandcider brought some of their flavoured cans. Their Haskap Lady’s Slipper was a masterclass on local PEI flavours 🍎 @islandfolkcider brought a few, including their latest Chocolate Strawberry made for Valentines 🍎 @crossmountcidercompany brought maybe their entire portfolio to sample?! Amazing! 🍎 @yorkcountycider from Fredericton became a cult favourite with their 2L bottles of flavoured goodness, including their 9% imperial cherry 🍎 other bottles from @greyandgoldcider, @heemanscellar and @drinkannapolis also made their way through the tasting events Always incredible to see Canadian Cider from coast to coast to coast be loved and appreciated.
