Brickworks Cider – Stadium Island Peach [Deacon Brodies]

Bar Review: Brickworks Cider Stadium Island Peach @ Deacon Brodies, Ottawa, ON
Sampled:
March 2016

Deacon Brodies is a cozy Scottish pub at the corner of Elgin and Cooper Street in Centretown, Ottawa. Open for a few years now, it has become a popular pub in the area to feature live music and unique food offerings; including an extensive whiskey selection. It also features many craft and rare drinks not offered at locations nearby. It not only has many whiskey and beer imports from Scotland, it has become one of the first locales in Ottawa to carry Brickworks cider on tap and in can.

image1 (3)Brickworks Cider Company has been a longtime favourite of the Cider Crate. We’ve loved their Batch: 1904 and the Queen Street 501 blends for a while now, so when we heard that they were releasing a peach-flavoured cider, we were excited. Getting to try it, we were not let down; no, our expectations were exceeded. With Deacon Brodies announcing they were finally carrying Brickworks Batch:1904 and Stadium Island Peach in a can, we got there as soon as we could to try the lovely peach drink.

Stadium Island Peach is a very crisp cider, with both sweet and sour notes, that tastes and feels like you are biting into a fresh peach. With other peach ciders we’ve tried being too bitter and too sugary for our preference, this is the peach cider we have been waiting for – a perfect blend that is very easy to drink. It actually reminds us of the peach beverage you can purchase at Tim Hortons.

The drink is a very pale pink, with some carbonation that provides a bit of a bite. The refreshing and sweet taste lingers in the mouth for a long time. It’s very fruity smelling and tasting, and perfect for a light and breezy sunny day.

01_deacon-brodie039s-pub-3323 It is only currently available in select restaurants and bars across Ontario, so do some research on where you can find it near you. We truly hope that Stadium Island Peach becomes available for purchase at the LCBO in the near future so we can stock up our fridge! But for now we will take any opportunity at a restaurant where we can find it, to enjoy this sparkling, fruity drink. Having enjoyed this brew, we look forward to Brickworks’ next flavoured cider offering – a cherry-flavoured “Field Trip Cherry” cider that will premiere in June 2016 at Biermarkt locations.
